just be yourself around him, spark conversations but don't overdue it. We like to fight for what we want, not for it to just come easy, or at least thats the way I am. Show some attention to him, but not too much, let him guess. If he likes you, he will notice and be drawn to you. Maybe do a little flirting, but again, don't come off too easy. Try being friendly to him and chatting to him more. Most boys won't mind. Just so long as you do it gradually.

OK OK, in the first instance, invite him out in a group setting. It's less pressure on both of you if you are around other people. From there, just see if he wants to hang out. Go to the movies, shops,or anything you can think of. Don't let the pressure get to you too much. Remember to have fun!
if it's a school setting sit near him and casually ask him a question about homework or something just start up a conversation nothing weird about that.
