At 19, I'm finally getting ready to move out. As soon as I kind find a full-time job to pay for rent and community college classes, I'm getting my own apartment.
Now that I'm finally thinking about it practically though, I'm a bit intimidated. I really don't want to be one of those kids who come move out and then end up back home in a few months.
What advice can you give me so that I make a smooth transition from living at home to being on my own?Any advice for a young guy moving out?
This might be a little long. The first thing is being able to take care of yourself. ie: cooking, cleaning, laundry, basic house cleaning. Im not saying that you don't. There are a lot of things. The most important is to work out a budget. If you can't afford a $700 a month in rent then don't try. when you work out your budget make sure you leave extra for food, basic toiletries, and small things you will need on a day to day basis. There is a lot that you won't realize you need. Start trying to get the little things before you leave. You'll need a lot. i would recommend buying small things like dishes, clothes baskets, silverware, a microwave, bedding, and cleaning products. The basic idea is that your mom isn't going to let you clean out her cabinets to fill yours. The little things that you are going to forget are spices, measuring cups, towels (bath %26amp; dish), and something to occupy your alone time. ie: books, magazines, computer. There isn't anything that is going to just appear because you need it. Last but not least, BUY A SHOWER CURTAIN AND LINER. I made the mistake that it would be ok to use one that was in my first apartment. I ended up at wal-mart at 4 a.m. I work 12 hours a day in a factory. That was a huge misconceptionAny advice for a young guy moving out?
Make sure you have some money saved in case you find you may need it. Living paycheck to paycheck is not really a good idea. Live within your means, don't overspend. good luck :)
Make sure you have extra money before you move out, and make sure you always have toilet paper.
